EXPANDING MOSSY CREEK CHURCH

After a year of planning, discussion and meetings, the members of Mossy Creek voted unanimously to expand the fellowship hall.  Click here for details...

Adopt-A-College Student/Service Person

Our church strives to reach out to the members of our church community that are furthering their education or are serving in the armed forces of the United States of America.  Care packages are sent quarterly to remind students/military that the members of the church are thinking about them and praying for them.  For more information or to volunteer to help with this ministry, please contact any member of the Ministry Team at Mossy Creek.

Adopt-A-Mile

Mossy Creek is a participant in the White County Adopt-A-Mile program.  Our mission is to be a good steward of what God has so graciously given to us all.  We have adopted a two mile section of Post Road in Cleveland, GA.  Our responsibility is to pick up the roadside litter four times a year.  We average twelve participants at each outing.  With more participation, we can adopt more mileage.  All volunteers are welcome.

Camping Trip

Mossy Creek camps twice a year:  Mother's Day weekend and beginning of October.

Latest trip -  Oct. 5th - 7th, 2007
at Tugaloo State Park.

Family Night Suppers

Join us for monthly fellowship, food and fun the fourth Wednesday of each month in the Mossy Creek fellowship hall.  Different groups of the church sponsor and provide the monthly meals for church members and anyone who wants to join in the fun. Meals are delivered to members of the community who are unable to attend. Meals are served free of charge with donations accepted.   We welcome and encourage all community members to attend!

Food Pantry

We collect and deliver food for the White County Food Pantry.  The White County Food Pantry served over 2,400 families in White County last year.  Boxes for donations to the Food Bank are located at the front and side doors of the church.  We welcome donations for this important ministry.

Helping Hands

The Helping Hands card ministry has given another option for Mossy Creek United Methodist Church to show what a caring church we are.  Greeting cards are sent to members to wish them a Happy Birthday, Happy Anniversary, Get Well wishes, Sympathy, Thank You, Congratulations, or just to let them know we miss them and are thinking of them.

Tape Ministry

The purpose of the tape ministry is to keep the homebound in our community involved with our regular Sunday services.  An original tape is sent to a local radio station in Cleveland for a radio broadcast.  In addition, anyone who missed a service can listen to these tapes at a later date.  Copies of the tapes are located in the back of the sanctuary for distribution.

Angel Tree

The Angel Tree is a mission project that allows us to help people in our community at Christmas time.  The Department of Family and Children's Services furnishes the church names of families that would otherwise not be able to provide Christmas gifts for their children.  We shop, wrap and deliver gifts so that the less fortunate children of our community can celebrate in the joyous holiday season.

Camp Meeting

Camp Meeting 2008

Mossy Creek and Trinity UMC join forces to celebrate God the last week of July each year.  Activities included guest preachers, motivating sermons and activities for kids.

Operation Christmas Child

At Mossy Creek, we love all children.  We work with the Franklin Graham Crusade in collecting shoeboxes filled with goodies for children all over the world.  The shoeboxes are one of our largest annual mission projects.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

Operation Net India

Each year the Mossy Creek congregation takes part in the "Christmas in a Backpack" program, a division of Net India.  Christmas in a Backpack is a project that delivers backpacks full of Christmas gifts to needy children in the nation of India.  Last year, we were able to send 75 backpacks to India.  This year, we have established a goal of 100 backpacks.  YOU can take part in this mission by collected a new or used backpack in good condition and inserting $10.00 in the pocket.  The ten dollars goes towards purchasing goods for the children in India.  If you cannot find a backpack, you can donate $20.00 to Net India and they will purchase the backpack and fill it with goods.

"Imagine the joy of a child with no mother or father to express love to them with smiles, hugs, or much less through gifts of Christmas.  You can help be a part of this impact on a needy child this Christmas through "Christmas in a Backpack", a unique project that brings the joy of Christmas to the needy children.  'Net India' an international Mission Organization to the Nation of India will deliver 2,000+ backpacks to the precious children while also telling them about God's Son,"  Ken Grindle, President  "Net India".

Thanks to all who donated to the Net India Project.  We collected 25 Backpacks to send to needy children.

Orphanage In Nepal

The Young At Heart Sunday School class has been sending money to build an orphanage in the capital city of Kathnandu in Nepal.  Holly & James, relatives of Young At Heart class member June Shunk, have begun an orphanage in Nepal.

James was born in Nepal, Asia and lived in an orphanage until he was about sixteen years of age.  He never knew his parents.  Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Reed of Oregon adopted him when he was about seventeen years old and put him through school at the Pensacola Christian College.  That is where he met Holly.  They both wanted to be missionaries.

They have two children of their own and take care of an additional six children.  They say that there are many street children that beg and sleep anywhere.  Many children are homeless and have no clothes.  When they go to church, they have to hire two taxis to take the family.  They need extra help to get a van and get started on an orphanage.  Let us do our part.

Spring 2008 Update

In January of 2008, James bought 1/2 acre of land for the Orphanage and is now working on the designing of the building and searching for builders.  At present, they live in a three story home with the orphan children.  James and Holly are going to have their third children in a few months.  For the past two years, our Young at Heart Sunday School Class is sending $100.00 a month for the land and building funds.

James and Holly have been sharing the gospel in a number of ways:  a Christmas play, baptizing children and handing out information at community markets.

A Letter from James and Holly Tamang

Dear Young at Heart Sunday School Class,

Thank you so much for having a burden for our ministry in Nepal and giving towards it.  I am also thankful for my grandmother who shared with you about our children's home there.

We started the home and have six children and then two of our own.  We are looking for another couple to help us so we can take in more children.  We also were in need of sponsorship for the children's home so your money will be able to help towards that.

Thank you for being willing to be used of god.

In Him, James & Holly Tamang

Relay For Life

Working with the White County branch of the American Cancer Society, Mossy Creek forms a team to participate in the annual Relay For Life.  This 24-hour walk raises money to provide funds for cancer research and patient support.  Mossy Creek team members raise funds by sponsoring a yard sale and a bake sale.  Some members walk at the White County High School track to honor and in memory of friends and family members who have been affected by the disease.  White County's 2008 event was held in May.  Click here for pictures...

School Supplies

Although White County teachers have expressed that there are usually enough school supplies at the beginning of each school year, the supplies dwindle by the holiday season.  Since school supplies are on sale in the summer, we are beginning to collect them at the church to distribute throughout the White County School System at a later date.
